2009 Pre-event info July 18, 2009 Mudhead Benefit Regatta for Hospice Southeastern Connecticut. The Mystic River Mudhead Racing Association announces that it has registered its annual Mudhead Benefit Cup for Hospice Southeastern Connecticut on July 18, 2009 as a certified Clean Regatta with the non-profit organization, Sailors for the Sea. By doing so, the association pledges its commitment to clean waters and shores, and vows to fulfill and encourage others to fulfill the goals and requirements set forth by Sailors for the Sea. These goals include providing recycling containers on shore and encouraging their use, including a list of non-toxic cleaning products in each skipper’s packet, keeping the shore clean of debris and the possible disqualification of any boat that is observed discharging trash into the water “This is our biggest sailing event of the year, and we are committed to running it as cleanly as possible, both on and off the water,” said Andy Stoddard, Commodore of the Mystic River Mudheads. “By signing up as a Bronze Level Clean Regatta, we hope to bring attention to the sailors in southeastern Connecticut of their responsibility for helping keep the waters and shorelines we enjoy clean and healthy.” Mudhead Race Committee Chairman, Greg Gilmartin, adds, “It’s common sense: no trash overboard, no discharging of waste, recycle your paper and cans, and have a good time on the water and at the party on shore.” The Mudhead Benefit Race is a fundraiser for Hospice Southeastern Connecticut, a non-profit community-based organization that has been providing end-of-life care since 1985. Hospice Southeastern Connecticut is a member of the National Hospice Regatta Alliance, and is celebrating its 20th year of races.
