2007 will be Tom's second consecutive year as a competing skipper in the Championship. In 2006 he came to Annapolis representing Henderson Harbor. Prior to that, he had participated as crew in an earlier National Hospice Regattas Championship. In his own words, he describes his sailing history:

While growing up on Long Island Sound, my first racing was done in a Blue Jay out of Cold Spring Harbor. As a teen I helped race my dad's MORC boat Tricia, then shortly after college, my real one design education began on Ron Palm's soling. For nearly a decade I crewed on the soling at major events around the country including two trips to the Olympic Trials. Toward the end of the soling campaign I got involved with lightnings on a regional level for about 8 years, and thereafter raced a J-24. The late 1980's also found me involved in two eight metre Worlds Championships with the Palms.

With three young sons' sports activities tugging at my schedule, I started what was to be a ten year sailing sabatical in 1992.

In 2003 I returned to the starting line with my current boat Oz, another J-24. In 2003 the Oz team won the District 7 J-24 pennant series, qualifying us for the '04 Worlds in Noroton. The highlights of 2005 included crewing for Kiki Werner aboard Golden Feather at the Worlds held in Toronto.

2006 finds me racing Oz in Oswego Yacht Club's various events and in several one design and PHRF regattas around the Northeast. I'm also racing a star on New York's Finger Lakes.
