'Team Niagara' qualified to represent Hospice
Niagara in the National event by winning the Niagara Hospice
Regatta, hosted by the Youngstown (NY) Yacht Club August 11, 2001
in Vic's J-22 Mo' Money. Regulars Kevin and Jacob Doyle were
aboard the boat for the victory.

It will be a 'family affair' when the team of Victor Snyder and
daughter Beth, of Niagara Falls, NY team up with Kevin Doyle, and
his sons Ben and Jacob to challenge the nation at the 2002 National
Hospice Regatta.
Vic began sailing in 1965 at the age of 14 when he built a rudder,
dagger board and 'stair banister' mast, stuck them on a Popular
Mechanics homemade pram and proceeded to learn to sail. He sailed
a used Albacore casually for years (good for 4 people and a case
of beer) before being invited to race with gentleman sailor Karr
Parker in 1978. Sailboat racing for fun has been a priority ever
since. Race experience includes helping to support local dinghy
fleet racing efforts, too much weeknight racing (ask his wife Helen),
several Chicago-Mac races, and traveling and competing in many major
J/22 regattas.
Kevin, a frequent helmsman aboard the Mo' Money, is an avid
3rd generation competitive sailor. He did most of his junior sailing
at the Youngstown Yacht Club and Niagara on the Lake (Ontario) Sailing
Club. From there, it was off to intercollegiate sailing powerhouse,
The University of Rhode Island. From the mid-eighties until the
early nineties, he and his wife Carol campaigned their J-24 'Chinchilla
Buck' with modest success. For the last few years, in addition
to the Mo' Money's fairly aggressive regional J-22 schedule, he
has rediscovered the Laser. This year's sailing goal is to finish
in the top half of the Laser Master's World Championship, being
held in Hyannis, MA in mid September.
Beth Snyder and Ben Doyle have been friends for years, meeting
in their pre-teens in the Youngstown Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program.
Both of these college age sailors are very experienced dinghy and
small keelboat sailors.
Jake Doyle 15, a regular bowman aboard the Mo' Money, is
experienced far beyond his years. His consistent top performances
at regional junior and Laser events and intrinsic love for sailing
itself has helped him develop into a top-notch sailor.
In 2001, the Mo' Money team was 12th in the J-22 Midwinter
Championship, 3rd in the J-22 class in the Annapolis NOOD Regatta,
1st in the Canadian National J-22 Championship, 1st in the Youngstown
(NY) Level Regatta and 10th in the J-22 North American Championship
Regatta.
