John Hanna, representing Hampton Roads, has raced on Chesapeake
Bay since l952 and was a Virginia State Harbor Pilot for forty-three
years. John races with his son, John III who is the helmsman on
Battlewagon, a Pearson 37.
John has been racing Battlewagon since 1982 with the exception
of the years 93 through 96 when they campaigned a Mumm 36 also named
Battlewagon.
Three more of the regular crew will be aboard for this Regatta,
Edward Williams, Cary Hardesty, and Jamie Collins.
In 2002 Battlewagon won the Cruising Club of Virginia
PHRF A High Point, the CBYRA Region 4 South High Point, and the
Screwpile Light House Challenge Over All Class 7.

John has been Commodore of Hampton Yacht Club, a board member of
the Cruising Club of Virginia and currently the Chairman of the
Sailing Foundation of Christopher Newport University and President
ot the Board for the Watermen's Museum of Yorktown, Virginia.
