Bryan Huntley and team will represent the Stein Hospice Cup at the
2002 national championship. The Sandusky, Ohio, regatta benefits Stein
Hospice, and this year will be held on July 12-13, 2002.
Bryan is taking his winning crew to Annapolis: Kevin Bache, Regan
Cole, Annette Munafo and Jim Shufflin.
An active member of the Sandusky Sailing Cub since 1977, Bryan
sails a Kelley 28 called Infra Red in the MORC class. He
follows a family tradition started by his father Jim, a Sandusky
SC member since 1939. Over the past twenty-some years, Infra
Red has become a recognized name on the Lake Erie racing circuit,
in both MORC and PHRF. The Infra Red crew has brought home
many first in class and first overall trophies, with several consecutive
wins at the Mills Race, Lake Erie, and Islands Races; 5 first overall
finishes at Bay Week; and a first overall in the 2000 Green Island
Race against a field of 65 PHRF contenders. From the 1998 MORC Internationals,
the Huntley crew brought home a fourth overall.
The Infra Red crew has not been quite as active in 2001
while skipper Bryan and his lovely bride, Julie, took time off to
get married and set up their new household. Huntley and crew did
set aside some time to participate in a few races, including the
2001 Stein Hospice Cup hosted by the Sandusky Sailing Club. Infra
Red won the Stein Hospice Cup in a three-race series, and the
honor of representing Stein Hospice at the National Hospice Regatta
Championship. Bryan has been a committee member for the past three
years, supporting Stein Hospice and helping the regatta grow in
popularity in both the sailing and "landlubber" communities.
