Competing Skipper 2001 -- Robert Johnstone
Bob Johnstone is the founder and co-owner of J Boats, Inc. He resides
with his wife, the Reverend Mary J, in Charleston SC where he does
the marketing for J Boats, Inc. and, as J South LLC, is the dealer
for the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida.
He represents Maine, because he lives and sails
in Northeast Harbor from June to September.
In the past year in his J/105, he won Charleston Race Week, Key West
Race Week, DownEast RaceWeek Overall, the Northeast Harbor Summer
Invitational Series and the Alice Cup in Charleston. He finished 3rd
at Block Island Race Week, won Class A in the Detroit NOOD sailing
the new J/145, took a 3rd in the Interntional Masters Championship
in San Francisco and in 1999 won the Maine Retired Skippers Race...yes
you have to be a card (Medicare) carrying skipper to qualify.
Bob has been a Director of US Sailing, Chairman
& Founder of the US Youth Sailing Championship and Secretary/Treasurer
of the US Olymjpic Yachting Committee. He is a member of the New
York YC, Northeast Harbor Fleet, Little Cranberry YC, Charleston
YC and Charleston Ocean Racing Association.
