Alan Krulisch will represent the Hospice Regatta of Maine, which this
year will be held on July 20 at Southwest Harbor, Mt. Desert Island.
The regatta benefits Hospice of Hancock County.
Alan was introduced to sailing as a midshipman at the U.S. Naval
Academy
in the late 1950s. He started in a Sailfish, and over his sailing
career has progressed (big surprise) to successively larger boats.
He has raced his current boat, the Cambria 40 Crackerjack
, from Chesapeake Bay to Maine where he is a summer resident. Over
a span of 12 years Crackerjack has won races on
Chesapeake Bay (Shearwater Sailing Club Double Handed Race twice,
and
the St. Brendan Cup), Buzzard's Bay Regatta, Edgartown Race Week,
Down
East Race Week, and the Hospice Regatta of Maine.
The most notable accomplishments have in the Marion-to-Bermuda
Race,
with three consecutive First in Class finishes (1995, 1997 and 1999).
For the 1999 race, Crackerjack was awarded the Naval Academy
Trophy as
the top Chesapeake Bay yacht. Overall, Alan has skippered a total
of
twelve races to Bermuda, from either Marion or Newport, and collected
hardware in six of these races.
His crew for the National Hospice Regatta Championship is drawn
from his
offshore crew, several of whom have J/105, J/80, and Melges 24
experience.
