Competing Skipper 2001 -- Michael Lague
Michael Lague will be representing the WCSC Hot S'Yacht Hospice 2000
Regatta at the National Championship event. Michael is currently a
member of WCSC in SC and Raritan YC in NJ. At age 37 he holds many
club championship titles, a White Horse Dingy World Championship and
owns a J80.
Being a RI native, his racing career began on Narragansett Bay
at the age of 12. At the age of 16 he became alternate helmsman
aboard Kemosabee, a Morgan 42, and captured the Narragansett Bay
Yachting Association Championship. From 1980 - 1985 he ventured
out and raced in the Barrington YC Sunfish Frostbite Fleet. In 1983
he finished 2nd in the Save the Bay Frostbite Championship.
In 1992 and 1993 he raced his J24 throughout Narragansett Bay.
He won 2 Club Championships at Narragansett Terrace YC (1992 and
1993). In 1993 he won the Club Championship at Cove Haven YC. Other
major wins included; Mount Hope Bay Championship (1993), AlliedSignal
Cup Overnight Race (1992), McKee Cup Champion (1992-1993) and Plastic
Fantastic (1993). He also crewed in the J24 fleet in the 1993 Bermuda
Race Week.
After taking a 6 year break to start a family, Michael now aggressively
campaigns his J80. In 1999 he captured the WCSC Championship. He
has sailed his boat in Key West Race Week (2000 and 2001). His championship
win at the Hot S'Yacht Hospice 2000 (47 boats) included 3 first
place finishes in the 4 race regatta.
