Competing Skipper 2008 - Ron Lester
Ron Lester, of South Bend, Indiana, sails with the Michigan City Yacht Club at the southern tip of Lake Michigan. He started sailing in 1974 and won the Chicago to Mackinac race in 1977 and 1979 in a custom made boat named “Chocolate Chips.” He has sailed in a total of 19 Mackinac races and three North American Championships, finishing second in 1977, first in 1978 and third in 1979. Ron finished third in the World Championship in 1978. He has sailed in all four corners of the United States, and recently finished the Lightning N/A’s.
Ron has been in sales since 1968 and is the owner of Yarnor, Inc. His primary focus is industrial wastewater treatment. Ron and his wife, Jill, have been married for 43 years.
