Hospice of the North
Shore Regatta 2003
June 13 and 15
2003 HNS Regatta Tops Records
The rainy skies Friday night didn't dampen the festivities for
a crowd of more than 300 at the 9th Annual Auction and Regatta for
Hospice of the North Shore (HNS). Hosted by Marblehead's Eastern
Yacht Club, the guests feasted on lobster and then bid on 34 auction
items, helping HNS to raise $200,000, the single largest total in
the event's nine-year history.
"All who have given their time, talent and generous financial
support tonight are partners in our noble mission to provide the
gifts of comfort, care and peace for individuals and families at
end of life," said Diane Stringer, HNS president. In particular,
she praised co-chairs John DeJesus and Nancy McCarthy and their
extraordinary committee for making the evening such a success.
On Sunday, the sunshine enticed 38 skippers, a record number, to
hit the wind and waves for the regatta. Vern Polidoro, skipper of
Vigilante, won for his class and will represent HNS at the National
Hospice Regatta Championship in Annapolis, Maryland in April 2004.
Families and friends joined in the celebration at the Father's Day
BBQ after the race.
Since 1995, Hospice of the North Shore has
been the beneficiary of this annual race, hosted by the Boston,
Corinthian and Eastern Yacht Clubs of Marblehead in alternating
years. The ninth Hospice Auction and Regatta, to be held at the
