To all hospice regatta contacts--
This is first call for nominations for officers and directors for
the
National Hospice Regatta Alliance, to be elected by Alliance member
representatives at the annual business meeting on April 11, 2002.
Each hospice regatta is requested to have a voting representative
at the
meeting, or provide a proxy to the Alliance.
The officer positions are President, Vice President/Secretary,
and
Treasurer. The VP/Secretary position was combined by vote at the
2001
meeting, and may be split again if the members decide to do so at
the 2002
meeting.
The director positions are currently four in number, but the current
officers and directors decided at a board meeting September 29,
2001, to
seek to expand the number in order to obtain more talent and experience.
Although the Alliance does not want to drain any regatta of such
resources, please consider who among your network may be willing
and
able to serve as officers or directors. The current officers and
directors are listed as CC addressees in this email. Please feel
free to
contact any or all of us to discuss any nominations or questions
you may
have.
Nominators should provide us introductory information about your
nominees prior to the business meeting, so we can share it with
members in
advance.
Thank you! --JeanK

To all hospice regatta contacts-
As always, please forward this to anyone in your organization who
is not
listed but should know about this.
This is preliminary notice that the National Hospice Regatta Alliance
will
hold its annual business meeting on Thursday, April 11, 9am to 4pm
in
Annapolis, MD. Directions will follow later.
The agenda will include brief reports from each regatta, review
and
approval of financial matters, election of officers and directors.
We
also would love, as usual, to have your representatives bring
show-and-tell items from your regattas.
For those new to our process, who you send to the business meeting
is up
to you. Different regattas have different kinds of people representing
them for the Alliance's business, not just hospice staffers or just
race
committee. The important thing is that they have some understanding
of
your regatta and issues. One cost-saving possibility is having one
of
your racing team's people represent you at the business meeting,
if they
are involved in the regatta operations.
At the meeting, too, we ask that people bring some show-and-tell
items and
make a brief presentation about their regatta. This is one of the
ways we
share the intellectual wealth.
For those who do attend, and would like to stay for the racing,
we will be
arranging for boats for those we know about. We'll ask about that
closer
to the time.

Dear team skippers and others--
Here is some information about lodging and transportation for the
championship April 12-14.
*** Any questions on this, email Linda Ambrose, lbba@mindspring.com
***
(Yankee Point, please note I have no email address for Lee Williams,
so
will mail this notice to him. Hampton Roads, since you are picking
an
alternate, I will correspond with that person when you provide the
information.)
Please pass this on to anyone not listed who may be coming for
the
racing, spectating or attending the business meeting.
As stated in letters to skippers, each team is to make its own
travel and
lodging arrangements, but is entitled to an allotment from the Alliance
to
help with the costs. That amount is based on the average we reimbursed
each team for lodging at last year's championship. The amount and
instructions on obtaining it will be covered in a separate message.
For orientation to the area, including lodging, check the web site:
http://visit-annapolis.org
1. LODGING - For all prices, add

We may have information later on other possibilities, including
other
B&Bs. Most lodging will require you to have wheels, but some
are closer
to the action than others. Most activities will take place in or
near the
EASTPORT area of Annapolis, which is across little Spa Creek from
downtown
Annapolis. If there is any more distant location, we will coordinate
transportation.

2. AIR/RAIL TRANSPORTATION
Most of you may already know that Annapolis is about 40 miles East
of
Washington DC. Shuttles, cabs and rental cars are options for getting
to
Annapolis from airports and train stations.
AIRPORTS - Baltimore/Washington International Airport (aka BWI)
is the
closest to Annapolis, but the other two area airports are not out
of the
question, especially if you get a car. Reagan National Airport is
very
near DC, in Virginia; Dulles International Airport is about 30 miles
West
of DC, but may be more economical for some tickets.
TRAINS - Amtrak serves DC efficiently from the Northeast corridor,
not so
well from other locations. There is a "BWI Airport" station
that would be
convenient for driving to Annapolis, or you could go into DC to
Union
Station.
3. GROUND TRANSPORTATION -
--> From BWI Airport and BWI Airport Amtrak Station - taxi to
downtown
Annapolis is approximately $40.
--> From BWI Airport - Super Shuttle service is $35, to the
Marriott
Waterfront in downtown Annapolis. Although this shuttle will pick
up from
any location to go to the airports, they can only drop at this hotel.
--> From BWI Airport - "Private Car" and Boston Coach
are sedan/limo
services which give personalized service to any location in the
Baltimore/Washington area.
Private Car - has a desk at the airport - call 410-519-0000 for
prices
Boston Coach - call 1-800/672-7676 for prices, reservations
Repeating: any questions on this, email Linda Ambrose,
