"Riding the Wind"
Finally we have a Willard Bond print selected for 2002
hospice regattas
to use. The image is called "Riding the Wind" and has
never been
produced as a poster or standard print before.
As a refresher, and for those of you new to our relationship with
Willard Bond, he has been making one of his images available for
hospice
regatta use each year since the early 1990s. Following is a recap
of my
message of February 20, to which many of you replied:
Use of the image is entirely up to you. Some regattas use local
artists' work, but for others this is an added opportunity to use
some
outstanding art to promote your regatta.
Here is the usual deal:
We are free to use the art in 2002 promotional materials such as
posters, sponsor solicitations and t-shirts. As with other
Alliance-related offers, using the image is optional -- some regattas
use other artists, but for others this is an opportunity to use
some
outstanding art to promote your regatta and add to revenue. What
you do
with the image is optional, too, although each of us should keep
in mind
the artist's conditions listed below.
POSTERS
A supply of at least 500 posters are printed and signed by the
artist.
You order from and pay his agent's gallery, Arnold Art, at $10 per
poster. Those of you ordering 100 or more posters may request they
be
imprinted with information about your event.
Posters may be sold or used as gifts, your choice. Last year's
suggested sales price was $45.
The Alliance will NOT be doing posters this year, so we won't compete
with your poster sales. We will, however, be willing to promote
your
sales through the Alliance web site, if you ask for it.
T-SHIRTS
Because of historical problems getting quality printing on t-shirts,
even from vendors who say they can do it, the agent asks that we
continue to use the Florida vendor they recommend. However, you
can
work with the vendor to design your shirts to use the art and add
any
words that you wish.
Also, in the past Arnold Art has asked that they receive six sample
t-shirts (3 XL, 3 Large) from you. That would be a nice courtesy
to
continue, although not requested this year.
OTHER MATERIALS
Arnold Art will consider granting additional uses of the image
upon
written request. One such request they approved last year was
embroidered caps for the Hampton VA regatta. Some regattas created
invitations using that image, too, with or without explicit approval.

Credit in print materials should be given, such as this:
