The National Hospice Regatta Championship
March 23-25, 2001, Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Notice & Conditions of Race

The National Hospice Regatta Championship shall be hosted by Hospice Care of Broward County, Inc. and the National Hospice Regatta Alliance. All social functions associated with the event shall be organized and coordinated through Pat Byrnes and /or Suzy Scalzo who can be contacted at 954-467-7423

The National Hospice Regatta Championship will be sailed in J/105 yachts.
The National Hospice Regatta Alliance will assign invited Skippers their boats for use throughout the National Hospice Regatta Championship, prior to the mandatory skippers meeting.
All yachts will be inspected and tuned for comparability prior to the skippers meeting.
The National Hospice Regatta Alliance shall be responsible for the launching, docking, hoisting and maintenance of the yachts throughout the regatta.

1.0 TITLE / DATES
The National Hospice Regatta Championship will be held March 23 - 25, 2001.
Racing will begin at 1000 on Saturday, March 24th and conclude on Sunday March 25 Th.
Multiple races per day will be attempted.
No race will begin after 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 25th.
Optional practice race(s) are scheduled for Friday afternoon, March 23rd.

2.0 RULES
The regatta will be governed by the 1997-2000 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) and the 2000 - 2001 Offshore Racing Council (ORC) Special Regulations for Category 4, this Notice and Conditions of Race, the Sailing Instructions and the J/105 Class Rules except as any of these are altered by the Sailing Instructions.
Competition in the regatta is open to qualified crews that contain no more the one (1) Group 3 - Professional Competitor - as defined in Appendix R of the RRS, 1997-2000, as prescribed by USSA. A Group 3 Professional Competitor may not steer during any race.
The National Hospice Regatta Championship shall be classified as a Category A event, as per RRS.
All yachts shall conform to the J/105 Class Safety Rules.

3.0 VENUES
The regatta will be sailed in the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 1 to 1½ miles south of the Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale) Mid-Channel marker.
The regatta's race headquarters will be located upstairs in the Sailing Center at the Lauderdale Yacht Club, 1725 SE 12th Street, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33316. (Ph - 954-610-4336)

4.0 MANAGEMENT
The races shall be organized and managed by the Lauderdale Yacht Club's Race Committee. The term "Skipper" as used in the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions shall mean the person who is designated on the entry form as the "Skipper" and who is the person in charge of the yacht throughout the regatta.

5.0 ELIGIBILTY
Racing skippers who have excelled in the 16 regional Hospice Regattas held nationwide during 2000 shall be invited by the National Hospice Regatta Alliance to contend for the National Hospice Regatta Championship.
Entries must be received on or before March 4, 2001. A completed entry form must be received by mail addressed to the National Hospice Regatta Alliance, c/o 2112 Eluna Court, Vienna, VA 22182-4033.
Entry acknowledgements will be e-mailed, faxed or mailed when the entry form has been processed and accepted.
The entries of all yachts entered shall be posted on the Official Notice Board located at the Sailing Center at the Lauderdale Yacht Club before 1800 on March 22nd.

6.0 CREW LIMITS
J/105 Class Rules regarding crew weight limits shall apply for the National Hospice Regatta Championship. The maximum weight allowed shall be 440 Kilograms ( 970 lbs.).
The owner or owner's representative shall not be included in the yacht's Class Weight maximum.
Crew weigh-ins shall begin at 0900 and conclude at 1200 on Friday, March 23, 2001, at the Lauderdale Yacht Club's Sailing Center located, 1725 SE 12th Street, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33316.
Prior to March 17, 2001, Skippers may ask the race organizer to recruit additional crew from the local area.

7.0 SKIPPERS MEETING
There shall be a mandatory skippers meeting at the Lauderdale Yacht Club's Sailing Center located at 1725 SE 12th Street, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33316, on Friday, March 23rd beginning at 1230. All Skippers are required to be present.

8.0 COURSES
The courses shall be windward / leeward courses.

9.0 SCORING
The Low Point Scoring System as described in Appendix "A" of the Racing Rules of Sailing will apply and each boat's series score will be the total of all her individual race scores. There will be no throw out races. This alters RRS A 2.1.
Ties will be broken according to RRS A 2.3.
Five (5) races are scheduled of which two (2) must be completed to constitute a regatta.

10.0 ENTRY FEES
There are no entry fees to the competitors.

11.0 BOAT ASSIGNMENTS
The National Hospice Regatta Championship committee shall assign entrants their boats.
Assignments will be made prior to the mandatory skippers meeting that begins at 1230 at the Lauderdale Yacht Club's Sailing Center on Friday, March 23rd.

12.0 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Sailing instructions will be available on March 10, 2000 at the regatta website (/hospiceregatta) and available at the mandatory skippers meeting on March 23rd at the Sailing Center located at the Lauderdale Yacht Club.

13.0 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

0900 - 1200 Crew Weigh-In Lauderdale Yacht Club (Sailing Center) / 1725 SE 12th Street / Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33316
1230 - 1330 Skippers' Meeting (Mandatory for Skippers) / Assignment of Yachts. Lauderdale Yacht Club / 1725 SE 12th Street / Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33316
1430 - 1700 Practice Racing (Optional)
1800 - Nightly Social Activity

Saturday, March 24th
0830 - Harbor signal at the Lauderdale Yacht Club
1000 - 1600 Warning signal for the first race. Subsequent races will follow immediately after the conclusion of the prior race.
1800 - Nightly Social Activity

Sunday, March 25th
0830 - Harbor signal at the Lauderdale Yacht Club
1000 - Warning signal for the first race. Subsequent race(s) will follow immediately after the conclusion of the first race. No race shall begin after 1300.
1500 - Award Presentations

14.0 PRIZES
Prizes will be awarded to the Skippers placing first, second and third based upon each boat's series score, which will be the total of all her individual race scores.
