Hospice of Jefferson County is a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit community based healthcare provider serving Jefferson and southern St. Lawrence Counties. Our mission is to provide care for individuals with life threatening illness and their families in this two-county region, regardless of ability to pay. Fundraising events are relied upon throughout the year to assist us in continuing to provide our very special programs and services to the community.

The 16th Annual Hospice Charity Cup, resulted in a net profit of over $40,000, announced Linda Sharlow, Executive Director of the Hospice Foundation of Jefferson County. 100% of the proceeds from the fundraiser go toward the Foundation's mission of providing financial assistance for Hospice of Jefferson County and their mission of providing care for individuals and their families, experiencing a life limiting illness.
The weekend began on Friday July31st with a dinner and silent auction at the Crescent Yacht Clubin Chaumont.
Saturday’s events held in Sackets Harbor included: Sailor registration, Charity Cup Races, Shore party, live entertainment, and Awards presentations.
The “Hospice Hustle” walk-a-thon took place on August 15th in Henderson Harbor; chairperson Penny McCrae exceeded her goal by raising over $10,000.
The tube race event returned after a two year hiatus. Tim Scee stepped forward to chair the event, netting $1,500. He and his committee are enthusiastically planning a more fruitful event in 2010.
22 boats again sailed in this year’s Regatta, with the overall Championship going to Dan Machold and second place to John Jones. Because Dan Machold also qualified in Oswego and will be representing Oswego, Jack Jones and his crew will represent Hospice of Jefferson County and the Henderson Harbor Yacht Club in the National Hospice Regatta Championships, in Rochester, NY next June.
Direct community contact and education about Hospice and its mission remain a very important objective of this annual event.
15th Annual HOSPICE CHARITY CUP
August 1 –3 2008 Sackets Harbor, NY
The 15th Annual Hospice Charity Cup, resulted in a net profit of over $43,000, announced Linda Sharlow, Executive Director of the Hospice Foundation of Jefferson County. 100% of the proceeds from the fundraiser go toward the Foundation's mission of providing financial assistance for Hospice of Jefferson County and their mission of providing care for individuals and their families, experiencing a life limiting illness.
The Charity Cup Regatta moved to Sackets Harbor in 2007 with the Henderson Harbor Yacht Club remaining co-host of the event. Due to a larger attendance the move increased fundraising dollars as well as awareness of Hospice and its mission.The weekend began on Friday August 3rd with registration from 6-9 at the Henderson Harbor Yacht Club along with the Junior Sailors race.
Saturday’s events included: Sailor registration, Charity Cup Races, Regatta Awards and Cocktail party, Dinner with live entertainment, and Silent and Live Auctions. The Home and Garden Tour including a lovely garden luncheon at the Henderson Harbor Yacht Club held on Sunday, July 13th was most spectacular. This committee led by chair Dana Keefer is very dedicated and raises the bar each year with 2008 net proceeds exceeding $10,000.
The “Hospice Hustle” walk-a-thon took place on August 8th in Henderson Harbor; a new energetic and devoted chair person Penny McCrae has re-invigorated this committee into netting over $8,500 this year and has plans to exceed $10,000 in 2009. The 12th Annual Hospice Charity Cup Regatta weekend began on Friday August 5th with registration from 6-9 at the Yacht Club, Family Fun Competition including Texas Horseshoes, Relay Races, Volleyball, Softball and an obstacle Course held at the Henderson Recreation Center, and the Junior Sailors race.

“Walk for Hospice” both in Henderson and in Watertown at the Thompson Park Zoo at 10 AM.
Tube Races at the town docks got underway at 2 PM and although it’s more difficult than it looks, it is FUN,FUN,FUN.? Yes, there was even a cash prize for those over 50 too!
The Regatta Awards and Cocktail party with live music at 3:30
Dinner, Silent and Live Auction at 5 PM Dinner was catered by Brewster’s BBQ and guests feasted on Steamship Round of Beef, Ribs, Chicken and all the trimmings.
A morning and afternoon Historic Home and magnificent Garden Tour were enjoyed by many on Sunday, August 7th which included lunch at Ryan’s Lookout.
Incorporating several activities aimed at attracting a diverse group of people helps make this event so successful year after year.
26 Boats sailed in this year’s Regatta, with the overall Championship going to Tom Doran, he and his crew will represent Hospice of Jefferson County and the Henderson Harbor Yacht Club in the National Hospice Regatta Championships, in spring 2006 in Annapolis, Maryland. Donald Clark was runner-up and will race in the National Regatta if Mr. Doran is for any reason unable to compete.
Again, the businesses and residents of Village of Henderson Harbor along with our many dedicated volunteers and loyal supporters were there to make the event an enjoyable weekend for all.

The 11th Annual Hospice Charity Cup, held the weekend of August
7th, in scenic Henderson Harbor resulted in a net profit of over
$40,000, announced Linda Barniak, Executive Director of the Hospice
Foundation of Jefferson County. 100% of the proceeds from the fundraiser
go toward the Foundation's mission of providing financial assistance
for Hospice of Jefferson County and their mission of providing care
for individuals and their families, experiencing a life threatening
illness.
The weather forecast was not ideal, but the day turned out to be
perfect. Lack of wind delayed the races for about an hour but the
winds picked up in the late morning giving the skippers and their
crew great sailing conditions.
26 Boats sailed in this year’s Regatta, with the overall
Championship going to Kirk Reynolds, he and his crew will represent
Hospice of Jefferson County and the Henderson Harbor Yacht Club
in the National Hospice Regatta Championships, in April 2005 in
Annapolis, Maryland.
Again, the businesses and residents of Village of Henderson Harbor
along with our many dedicated volunteers and loyal supporters were
there to make the event an enjoyable weekend for all. The Walk-a-thon,
Tube Races, Home & Garden Tour and the Silent Auction were well
attended and enjoyable. Incorporating several activities aimed at
attracting a diverse group of people helps make this event so successful

The 9th Annual Hospice Charity Cup set a new record! Held the weekend
of August 3rd, This year's event, resulted in a net of $40,000 for
the Hospice Foundation, announced Linda Barniak, Executive Director
of the Hospice Foundation of Jefferson County. Proceeds from the
fundraiser go to the Foundation's efforts of providing financial
assistance for Hospice of Jefferson County and their mission of
caring for the terminally ill and their families in Jefferson and
southern St. Lawrence Counties regardless of ability to pay.
"This years event was successful for a number of reasons,"
explained Ms. Barniak. We couldn't have asked for nicer weather.
Our goal of expanding this event into an entire weekend of activities
has been achieved, in no small part due to the efforts of the Village
of Henderson Harbor and our many dedicated volunteers. The weekend
offers something for everyone whether on land or water.
A Friday night "Sock Hop", new to the schedule this year,
attracted young and old alike. All enjoyed the dancing as well as
the delicious food and libations on the waters edge at the Charter
House Restaurant.
The "Hospice Hustle" Walkathon began at 10 am Saturday
morning, participants strolled along the Harbor Road while watching
the sailboat races. Chaired by Charlotte Richmond, the event attracted
XXX walkers.
Participants of all ages along with the hundreds of people watching
the "Tube Races", chaired by Cathy Maitland, from the
docks of the Harbor Inn and the West View Lodge, created a sense
of excitement and activity throughout the community.
Another addition to the weekend this year was a "Home and
Garden Tour", organized by Eileen Ditch. Many businesses and
private homes in the Henderson area opened their gardens for the
viewing enjoyment of interested parties.
XX Boats sailed in the 9th Annual Charity Cup Regatta. This year's
overall Champion is Herb Clark from Pulaski. He and his crew sailed
"FiFi" to the victory and will represent Hospice of Jefferson
County and the Henderson Harbor Yacht Club in the National Hospice
Regatta Championships, in April 2003 in Annapolis, Maryland.
After the races, 250 people gathered for a shore party, with music
by "Moving Chairs". Following the party, a delicious dinner
catered by Shelby's was enjoyed on the grounds of the Yacht Club.
Local media personalities, Brian Ashley, Mel Busler, and Rick DeFranco
led everyone in a fun-filled auction of humor and bidding. A silent
auction opened for bidding at 3 PM.
"This was our most successful Charity Cup yet, both financially
and in the support we had from the community. Well over 1000 people
had direct contact and education about Hospice and its mission,
a very important result of these events. Planning is underway to
make our 10th Annual Hospice Charity Cup Regatta even more eventful
and profitable.

7th Annual Hospice Charity Cup Sailing and Much
More... The Annual Hospice Charity Cup Regatta is an event that
offers something for everyone on land and sea. For the serious Sailor
it features a premier Sailing event on beautiful Lake Ontario, with
our Champion participating in a National Championship Race. It also
encourages the most novice sailor to participate and show their
support for Hospice of Jefferson County in three other divisions,
including the Hospice FUN Race.
There will be plenty to do for those of us who don't
have our "sea legs." Come to Henderson Harbor and enjoy shoreline
activities while watching the majestic beauty of the races. Landlubbers
and Sailors are then welcome to enjoy a delicious dinner, and bid
on dozens of celebrity and other unique auction items while relaxing
on the shoreline of Lake Ontario. Even more events throughout the
weekend are being planned with the Henderson Harbor community, to
draw the biggest crowd yet!
The Charity Cup truly offers something for everyone.
The 7th Annual Hospice Charity Cup has set a new record! This year's
event, held the weekend of August 5th, will result in a net of $33,000
for the Hospice Foundation, announced Chris Lorence, Executive Director
of the Hospice Foundation of Jefferson County. Proceeds from the
fundraiser go to the Foundation's efforts of providing financial
assistance for Hospice of Jefferson County and their mission of
caring for the terminally ill and their families in Jefferson and
southern St. Lawrence Counties.
"This years event was so successful for a number of reasons," explained
Mr. Lorence. "First, we had the best weather anyone could hope for.
Our goal is to expand this into an entire weekend of activities,
not just the sailing aspect. Ultimately we will have something for
everyone on land or the water. We also added new events to the weekend.
The 1st Annual "Hospice Hustle" Walkathon, with 135 participants,
was held at 10 am Saturday morning. They strolled along the Harbor
Road while watching the sailboat races.
Co-Chaired by Charlotte Richmond and Sharon Russell, the event
went wonderfully and raised $4,000. The community also got together
and held activities during the day, including "Tube Races". Cathy
Maitland chaired the event. 50 people participated with $1100 being
raised for Hospice. With Hundreds of people watching from the docks
of the Harbor Inn and the West View Lodge, there was a sense of
excitement and activity throughout the community."
Other businesses such as TuGees Gourmet Ice Cream donated 15% of
their gross from the day.
25 Boats sailed in the 7th Annual Charity Cup Regatta. This year's
overall Champion is Herb Clark from Pulaski. He and his crew sailed

Harbor Yacht Club in the National Hospice Regatta Championships,
March, 2001, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
After the races, 250 people gathered for a shore party, with music

by Shelby's was enjoyed on the grounds of the Yacht Club. Auctioneers
Mel Busler and Brian Ashley led everyone in a fun-filled evening
of humor and high bids. There was also a silent auction at the same
time. The auctions made over $9,000! All together, these events
and support from sponsors and advertisers add up to this amazing
total which represents a 64% increase over last year's total!
Fireworks sponsored by the Henderson Area Chamber of Commerce ended
the evening.
"This was our most successful Charity Cup yet, both financially
and in the support we had from the community. Over 1000 people had
direct contact and education about Hospice and its mission. This
is half the reason we do these events. We couldn't be more pleased.
Thank you's need to be made to so many people, especially all of
the volunteers who helped to make this happen. Planning is already
underway for next year and we believe we can make it even bigger."

Henderson Harbor, Lake Ontario-August 7 The Hospice
Charity Cup Regatta was initiated in 1994. Since its inception it
has grown in size and recognition, covering Central and Eastern
Lake Ontario as well as the Thousand Islands and St. Lawrence River

participate in the event. Last year's regatta netted a 25% increase
in proceeds to Hospice of Jefferson County and is its largest fundraiser.
The average fleet size is 40 boats with 225-250 people attending
the festivities. The 1998 race had entries for Keel Boats, Lightning
Class, Catamarans and a "fun race" for leisurely sailors. Media
support from CBS affiliate WWNY TV7 plays a prominent part in helping
the regatta grow. The post race dinner and awards ceremony culminates
in a "Celebrity Auction" attended by sailors, sponsors and the public.

The Hospice Foundation of Jefferson
County announced that the 6th Annual Hospice Charity Cup Regatta
held August 7th has set a record for dollars raised for Hospice
of Jefferson County. The net total is expected to be just over $20,000.
The increase comes as a result of dozens of volunteers and hundreds
of hours putting together the Regatta. The regatta is the largest
single fundraiser of the year for Hospice of Jefferson County.

35 boats enjoyed a pleasant day that
began with little wind and picked up by the afternoon, resulting
in some exciting final race finishes. After the races 230 people
attended a dinner, catered by Shelby's and auction. This year's
auctioneers were local CBS affiliate air personalities Jay Donovan,
Mel Busler and Brian Ashley. Over 150 items were auctioned off through
the live auction, silent auction and a raffle table. "All of this
combined led to the most successful Regatta ever", explained Chris
Lorence. "People had a great time and we raised a lot of money for
Hospice. This is our single biggest special event of the year and
we are very pleased."
Sponsor levels are $100 to $5000; benefits include a lavish Sponsor
Party, passage on observation boats, continental breakfast, dinner
and dancing, and special community recognition and publicity.
