Stuart has been sailing on boats since he was nine months old, starting out on a leaky Lightning in Lago de La Cocha, Cali, Columbia. As a child, he learned the ropes cruising on Hinckley's in Maine for a dozen summers. His racing started by age ten crewing on Penguins, Rainbows, Solings with his parents. By age thirteen got kicked off the boat by his Dad, then started racing Sunfish then 470s until college. Later, the family business started out with the J/24 and then his one-design/ offshore experience expanded worldwide. Stu's offshore sailing has included skippering/ tactics on Santa
Cruz 70s, Farr 60s, Nelson Marek 45s, IOR Maxi's amongst others.

1979 & 1980- Two time Intercollegiate Sailing All-American- Tufts University

1980- U.S. Intercollegiate Sailor of the Year- only person to place in all
four men's categories (Singlehandeds, Dinghies, Sloops, Team Racing).

1981- USYRU Tean Race National Champion (with Ed Adams and Scot Ferguson).
1981- World Team Race Championship- England- Runner-up

1983- J/24 Worlds- Malmo, Sweden- second- tactician

1985, 1986, 1987, 1992, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2005- Chicago-Mackinac Race-
