The weather was near-perfect on Saturday for the Rochester Hospice Regatta. Mark Blaakman’s True Colors claimed 3rd place in the C&C 29 division, won by Jack and Jason Evans and their crew. Congratulations to Kris Werner and crew of Pee Wee, winners of the 14th Rochester Hospice Regatta, which delivered great racing and great parties – as promised – for a great cause.

Congrats to Mark Blaakman and crew, not just for good results on the water but also for raising so much $$$ for hospice. Mark’s cumulative fundraising now exceeds $30,000!

Genesee Yacht Club Holds Hospice Regatta

The 14th Annual Hospice Regatta was held Saturday at the Genesee Yacht Club.

Hundreds of people gathered to celebrate and raise money for the Lifetime Care Hospice.
Attendants also remembered family members and loved ones that have passed away.

The charity boating event is the largest in the Rochester area with more than fifty boats competing in races on the waters of Ontario Beach.

“It’s a fundraiser to support care for the elderly and those with end of life illnesses,” says regatta board member Mark Blaakman.

“This is actually an idea that 14 years ago a couple of gentleman just dreamt that it would be a great idea here in Rochester. We have a very strong sailing community here and it was a great idea and here we are 14 years later,” says Kristina Mossgraber, the event organizer from Lifetime Care Hospice.

Since the Hospice Regatta began, more than $600,000 has been raised for the Lifetime Care Hospice.

Hospice Regatta — August 17 & 18, 2012 — Rochester, NY

The Hospice Regatta welcomes all sailors who regularly compete in club races or class regattas. The event is also recognized as a Tier 1 Qualifying Event for LYRA’s Boat of the Year award.

This year’s Regatta will be held August 17 & 18, hosted by Genesee Yacht Club. Located on the Genesee River, GYC is a lovely venue for our Friday night Clambake, and Saturday post-race party. The exciting day of racing takes place on Saturday on Lake Ontario.

Consider asking friends and family for donations to sponsor your boat! For donations less than $250, use the Hospice Helper form found here. For donations of $250 or more, use the form found here. Sponsors at the $250 level and higher receive benefits in the form of tickets and t-shirts, benefits are outlined on the form found here.

2012 Albemarle Hospice Regatta and Run for Hospice 5k August 4, 2012

In this year’s regatta, hosted by the Pasquotank River Yacht Club, participating sailboats will compete on a closed course on the Pasquotank River. The race is open to non-spinnaker and cruising class sailors.  The cruising class is a fun way for sailors to show their support for hospice care in North Carolina, even if they do not normally race.  The regatta also hosts small boat classes for youth and adult sailors.  Small boat one-design classes may be established when four boats of the same type register before July 25th.

The day will finish with a regatta awards ceremony that will be held on the Terryberry property in Newbegun Landing in Weeksville near the old blimp base.  The ceremony will include dinner, live entertainment, presentation of trophies, a raffle, and a silent auction.  The awards ceremony is open to all who would like to support the day’s sailors.  Meal tickets are required for entrance to the awards ceremony, but the deck will be opened later to the general public for live music and dancing.

The goals of the hospice regatta are to raise money for our participating, non-profit hospice and to raise public awareness for hospices everywhere.  There is no better way to raise funds and awareness for hospice care than spending a day in the sun and  everyone has a lot of fun in doing so!

There will be no rain date and no refunds!
