GSL Charity Cup for Hospice Regatta – July 21-22, 2012

In 2011, the Mayfield Yacht Club (MYC) teamed up with the National Hospice Regatta Alliance (NHRA) and Mountain Valley Hospice (MVH) to stage an expanded version of our Charity Cup Regatta. NHRA is a national organization that assists clubs in organizing regattas to raise money, through donations and corporate sponsorship, in support of local hospice programs. The winner of the GSL Hospice Regatta qualified to advance onto the National Regatta to be held in Saint Petersburg, Florida in April of 2012. More information regarding the National Regatta can be found here. We are excited to be associated with the NHRA and MVH, and have organized a first rate event. MYC has a long history of successfully staging a wide range of sailing events and the race committee has no doubt this event will be a highlight in that long tradition.

In 2012, we are expecting to attract boats from across NY State and beyond and are hoping you will be one of them. Aside from a day and a half of great racing, we are planning a Saturday night celebration, daily sponsor involvement and an event ending awards and recognition ceremony on Sunday.

The race committee has arranged with the marina next door to host free, self-serve launch and storage for the weekend on a first reserved basis for a limited number of boats. We will also be working to secure the same at other near by marinas to handle any overflow. MYC has (depending on water level) a limited number of transient ramp side spaces which are open on a first come, first served basis.

For those overnighting, there will be a limited number of tent spots on MYC grounds available on a first reserved basis. We will be asking club members to host off lake entrants on their boats at the club and we are looking at securing a hotel sponsor that may be an avenue for reduced hotel rates.

The 2012 CCR Notice of Race (NOR) is already available and Sailing Instructions (SI) will be available soon. Early indication is we will once again have a very solid Multihull Fleet. The race committee is expecting top notch Gold Fleet racing as well as fleets for a wide range of entrants. We will have an expanded fleet of chase boats on the course at all times giving better flexibility with course selection and orientation.

The race committee has adapted a Portsmouth Yardstick rating system for this year’s regatta. All fleets will race under the same system using offsets for spinnaker, jib and crew number allowances on each boat. All entrants will compete for overall winner and the right to represent our regatta at the NHRA annual regatta in 2013.

The race committee is very excited about how this year’s regatta is shaping up. If you know anyone who may be interested, please forward this wbsite along.

Think sailing and if you have any questions give us a shout.

Sincerely,
2012 CCR Race Committee

2012 PC Paul and H Joan Joy, Niagara Hospice Regatta — June 30, 2012

On behalf of Niagara Hospice, we would like to thank everyone who supported the 2011 Jack Beatty Memorial Hospice Regatta! The Niagara River Cruise ‘n’ Schmooze took place at the Youngstown Yacht Club on Friday, July 8, 2011, and the Regatta was held on Saturday, July 9, 2011. Together, with your support, we were able to raise $20,000, bringing our 12-year total to over $252,000!

The proceeds from these events provide revenue for Niagara Hospice to use in their work with individuals and families dealing with end-of-life illnesses. Since 1988, Niagara Hospice has served over 13,000 Niagara County residents and their families. No individual is denied Hospice care regardless of his or her ability to pay. Families who are uninsured or underinsured can take comfort in the fact that Hospice services are available to them.

The 2012 Niagara River Cruise ‘n’ Schmooze will take place on Friday, July 13th and is open to the public. Members of the Youngstown Yacht Club generously donate their boats and their time to take you and your friends up the Niagara River for a leisurely cruise, while you enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and listen to the on-the-water entertainment. After the cruise, you will return to the beautiful Youngstown Yacht Club for a fabulous clambake with all the trimmings.  Why not get your friends together and plan on enjoying this event?  You will support a very worthy cause at the same time.  Boarding passes will be for sale beginning in April of 2012 and can be accessed by selecting the “Niagara River Cruise” link on the left side of this page – check out our Photo Album link too!

For those skippers interested in racing, The 2012 PC Paul and H Joan Joy, Niagara Hospice Regatta is scheduled for Saturday, June 30, 2012. Registration and race information are available on the Hospice Regatta page.

On behalf of all the patients and families that Hospice serves, We would like to thank you in advance for your participation and support! If your lives have been touched by Hospice, you know how important your support is!

Our tent was donated by Jim Steele.

The Oswego Yacht Club, as always, was a gracious host and provided us with the support we needed to have such a successful event. Thanks go out to all who sailed in the Regatta,  participated in the Walk/Run for Hope and attended the reception.

An event such as this could not happen without the help of our Regatta organizing committee and a slew of volunteers.  My thanks to all of you for ensuring our success.

This outpouring of support is overwhelming and on behalf of Oswego County Hospice, patients and their families, thank you all for what you do…You make life a little easier for our patients and families at a time when they need it the most.

Oswego County Hospice Cup Regatta Sets Sail June 2, 2012

OSWEGO – Plans are well under way for the 13h Annual Oswego County Hospice Cup Regatta and Walk/Run for Hope, on June 2  at the International Marina/Oswego Yacht Club.

Barbara Bateman, right, president of the Friends of Oswego County Hospice Board of Directors, thanks Alyson Inman of Constellation Energy, for their support of the 2012 Oswego County Hospice Cup Regatta & Walk/Run for Hope. This is the fifth year that Constellation’s Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station has been the major sponsor of this event.Barbara Bateman, right, president of the Friends of Oswego County Hospice Board of Directors, thanks Alyson Inman of Constellation Energy, for their support of the 2012 Oswego County Hospice Cup Regatta & Walk/Run for Hope. This is the fifth year that Constellation’s Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station has been the major sponsor of this event.

Last year’s Regatta was a success, raising more than $21,000 to support Oswego County Hospice patients and their families.

For the fifth consecutive year, Constellation Energy Nuclear Group is the major sponsor of the event.

Since the first Hospice Regatta over a decade ago, the Regatta and Walk/Run for Hope has raised more than $220,000 to support the Oswego County Hospice program, patients and their families.

Funds raised at events like the Regatta enable the Friends of Hospice to provide financial resources to Hospice patients and their families to relieve unnecessary burdens when they are already dealing with the life-limiting illness of a loved one.

The Friends of Hospice also provide the financial resources to maintain the Hospice Volunteer Program and operate Camp Rainbow of Hope, a free bereavement program for children who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

“We are so pleased to have Constellation Energy and the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station as the major sponsor of the event again this year,” said Debbie Bishop, executive director of the Friends of Oswego County Hospice. “Without the support of our community partners such as Constellation, we would not be able to support the Hospice program, patients and families at the level we do.”

The day’s events get under way at 8:30 a.m. with the registration for the 5K Walk/Run for Hope at Wright’s Landing, with the race starting at 9 a.m. For Walk/Run for Hope applications, call 343-5223 or visit www.friendsofhospice.org

The sailing races get under way at 10 a.m. A spectator boat will be available for anyone who wants to view the Regatta from the water and will depart from the International Marina at 9:30 a.m. and again at 12:30 p.m.

Reservations are recommended.

Capping off the day’s events is the Hospice/Sailor reception that begins at 4 p.m. This reception, open to the public, is hosted by Lighthouse Lanes, with food and beverages donated by more than 20 area business.

Entertainment will be provided by Baby Boomers.

The reception also features a silent auction and drawings. Reservations are required for the dinner.
