This is the fifth year that Constellation’s Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station has been the major sponsor of this event.

Last year’s Regatta was a success, raising more than $21,000 to support Oswego County Hospice patients and their families.

For the fifth consecutive year, Constellation Energy Nuclear Group is the major sponsor of the event.

Since the first Hospice Regatta over a decade ago, the Regatta and Walk/Run for Hope has raised more than $220,000 to support the Oswego County Hospice program, patients and their families.

Funds raised at events like the Regatta enable the Friends of Hospice to provide financial resources to Hospice patients and their families to relieve unnecessary burdens when they are already dealing with the life-limiting illness of a loved one.

The Friends of Hospice also provide the financial resources to maintain the Hospice Volunteer Program and operate Camp Rainbow of Hope, a free bereavement program for children who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

“We are so pleased to have Constellation Energy and the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station as the major sponsor of the event again this year,” said Debbie Bishop, executive director of the Friends of Oswego County Hospice. “Without the support of our community partners such as Constellation, we would not be able to support the Hospice program, patients and families at the level we do.”

The day’s events get under way at 8:30 a.m. with the registration for the 5K Walk/Run for Hope at Wright’s Landing, with the race starting at 9 a.m. For Walk/Run for Hope applications, call 343-5223 or visit www.friendsofhospice.org

The sailing races get under way at 10 a.m. A spectator boat will be available for anyone who wants to view the Regatta from the water and will depart from the International Marina at 9:30 a.m. and again at 12:30 p.m.

Reservations are recommended.

Capping off the day’s events is the Hospice/Sailor reception that begins at 4 p.m. This reception, open to the public, is hosted by Lighthouse Lanes, with food and beverages donated by more than 20 area business.

Entertainment will be provided by Baby Boomers.

The reception also features a silent auction and drawings. Reservations are required for the dinner.

For more information on the Regatta, to reserve a spot on the spectator boat and to purchase dinner tickets, call 343-5223 or email oswegohospice@verizon.net

In honor of Willard Bond, FASME 1928-2012

Willard’s hospice video

On May 19, renowned marine artist and long-time friend of hospice regattas Willard Bond “cast off for the final time and set sail for his voyage into the mysterious unknown.”

Those words from his daughter who only recently helped him move to an apartment at the California Veterans Home in Yountville, CA. There the renowned marine artist and long-time friend of hospice regattas — surrounded by his artwork and photos of his studio and family — benefited from hospice himself. His daughter writes that both VA staff and Hospice nurses got to know Willard as the individual he was, the person that many of us knew.

Sail on, Willard, go with the wind!

2012 Albemarle Hospice Regatta and Run for Hospice 5k – August 4, 2012

This year, we are again excited about our fundraising for Albemarle Hospice and Albemarle Home Care. The fundraising is obtained through the proceeds of the yearly Regatta, 5K Run, and, of course, your generous sponsorship. We (Albemarle Hospice Regatta Committee) are part of the National Hospice Regatta Alliance (http://wwwhospiceregattas.org) to raise funds to support hospice care.

Your donation will help support hospice in its important role to provide services and palliative care to terminally ill patients and their families. Hospice provides services not only for our local county, but also serves Chowan, Perquimans, Camden, Currituck, and Gates County. With your donation, Albemarle Hospice and Albemarle Home Care will continue to serve those in need, regardless of their ability to pay.

We offer several levels of sponsorship to fit with your budget. Donations at any level are greatly appreciated! The sponsorship options are described in more detail on the enclosed Sponsor Proposal sheet. Our donors and sponsors are recognized on our website, identified in the awards dinner program booklet, and displayed on banners and other promotional materials. In order to recognize your business on promotional items, please let us know your level of sponsorship by Thursday, July 12, 2012.

The Jack Beatty Memorial Hospice Regatta, which takes place each summer at the Youngstown Yacht Club, sent the 2011 winning skipper and his crew to represent Niagara Hospice in the National Hospice Regatta Alliance Championship held in St. Petersburg, Fla., in April. Gary Tisdale, Adam Burns, Jimmy Carminati Jr. and Justin Hays (pictured above) proudly brought home the national championship. “It feels great to bring home the honor of this championship, and at the same time raise awareness and funds for hospice care here in Niagara County as well as around the country,” says championship crewmember Adam Burns.

The 2012 Jack Beatty Memorial Hospice Regatta takes place at the Youngstown Yacht Club on Saturday, June 30, and is a qualifier for the 2013 National Hospice Regatta Alliance Championship. The Youngstown Yacht Club also hosts the community event celebrating the regatta, the Niagara River Cruise and Clambake that takes place on Friday, July 13, and is open to the public. Participants will enjoy a cruise down the beautiful Niagara River, followed by a delicious clambake with all the fixings, a silent auction and basket raffle and more with proceeds to benefit Niagara Hospice.
