Hospice Regatta is One For the Record Books

The 13th Annual Hospice Cup Regatta and Walk/Run for Hope, held on June 2, raised $28,000 – the most in the history of the event – that will be used to support Oswego County Hospice patients and their families. Our success is directly tied to the support we receive from this community, both businesses and individuals.

Constellation Energy’s Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station was once again the title sponsor of the Regatta. Other major contributors were Entergy’s James A FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant, PathFinder Bank. Excellus, NRG and Alliance Bank.

Our tent was donated by Jim Steele.

The Oswego Yacht Club, as always, was a gracious host and provided us with the support we needed to have such a successful event. Thanks go out to all who sailed in the Regatta,  participated in the Walk/Run for Hope and attended the reception.

An event such as this could not happen without the help of our Regatta organizing committee and a slew of volunteers.  My thanks to all of you for ensuring our success.

This outpouring of support is overwhelming and on behalf of Oswego County Hospice, patients and their families, thank you all for what you do…You make life a little easier for our patients and families at a time when they need it the most.

NY – Oswego County Hospice Cup Regatta June 13, 2009

On June 13th, OYC hosted the 10th Annual Hospice Regatta in conjunction with the “Walk and Run for Hope, and it was, to put it politely, a smashing success.  Thanks to a contingent of competitors from Rochester and Sodus Bay Yacht Clubs (which included the eventual winner and runner up), 27 boats competed in this year’s event for the honor of representing OYC at the National Hospice Alliance Regatta to be held at the Rochester Yacht Club in 2010.  Constellation Energy was the title sponsor. Preliminary figures point to over $17,000 being raised to benefit this important service to the Oswego community.

Though the winds were light, the nearly daily rain for the previous three weeks held off, and Principal Race Officer Hank Stuart, who returned to run our regatta for the third time, was able to get off three strong races (though the last one was shortened by a leg as the wind curled up and fell asleep). Three Spinnaker divisions and one White Sail composed the fleet, and the competition was fierce for both division and overall honors, with only a few points separating the victors.

Peter Quackenbush from Sodus Bay Yacht Club skippered his J-33 “Moongator to the Oswego title,  beating out Kiki Werner’s “Pee Wee, a J-24 from Rochester Yacht Club.  Fran Enwright, racing his Beneatu 33 “Sail A Vie from the Oswego Yacht Club, finished in 3rd Place.
